My Apartment!!!!

This is the most interesting shower ever! it never gets warm, except on occasion. it has a push button like public sinks that times he water being on. So the trick is push 3-4 times to take the frigidness out of the water, hop in and get your hair wet. Then shampoo while off, rinse condition and bodywash while off, rinse, rinse, rinse, dry off.

I share the toilet and shower in a little hallway connecting mine and a girl from Minnesota named Fran's room.

French Riviera anyone?

French Riviera anyone?
So long weekend = spontaneous trip to the south of France. 5 of the 7 Calpoly girls decided to travel to Cannes and Nice for the long weekend. The 2 who spoke French had already bought tickets and everything for the train so the 3 spanish speakers head down to the Gare (French for train station) to buy what is called a Carte 25 which is a student discount card and train tickets. This being Rouen the man at the station didn’t speak English and none of us spoke French. Let’s just say my eighth grade French came out and there was a lot of hand gestures and things written down. Between all of that we managed to get the cards and tickets and learn a lot about dealing with our lack of fluency. The man at the gare was VERY nice and VERY patient which was amazing. So on Friday afternoon we decided to go to Cannes on Saturday morning at 7am. Talk about awesome.

The trip was amazing we took a train through France and got to see everything from the flatlands to the wineries, to some mountains and of course the Cote d’azur. Both of our hotels were walking distance between the gare and the beach. We didn’t pay for a single taxi while on the trip we walked everywhere. The only time we didn’t was to take a ferry to Ste Marguerite island where the man in the iron mask was held and the train between Cannes and Nice.
To be honest Cannes was kind of boring other than the museum on Ste M. The beach was beautiful but it was off season and there wasn’t a lot to do otherwise. I’m not much of a sun bather so I Laine and I amused ourselves in other ways.
Nice on the other hand had more to do than could get done in one day. We went to the beach and walked around a lot. Then Laine, Jeanna, and I went to get some cheap street food for dinner after having more expensive meals the nights before. I found this amazing Kebab shop not far from the beach where this gorgeous French guy, listening to Nirvana, made us the most delicious meal of my time in France so far. We picked up some fresh fruit as well and ate dinner on the beach watching the sun set. After 3 long days, and me picking up a cold, we decided to just relax in the room instead of going out that night. We watched French soaps and a cooking show while dubbing our own meanings over the top.
In our last morning there we picked up some coffee at a cafĂ© next door to the hotel, and some fresh fruit across the street at the most amazing fruit stand I have ever seen. I got fresh figs and a pear. I made Laine and Jeanna try the figs (which they loved). I’m now craving fresh figs and fig tarts etc.
This great adventure was followed by a 9 hour train ride back north through the heart of France

Mastering Rouen

Day 2:
It has rained every day I have been here! which is good and bad. I registered for my classes and went back to the store in order to procure more items such as towels, pillow, food, trashbin liners etc. I met a thousand people from all over the world through hanging out in the common area, to a social at the school, to just walking around. Don’t worry there are plenty of cute boys around from all over the world!
I have also mastered the bus system of Rouen and procured my first European cell phone which is kind of badass if I do say so myself.

more to come - no photos sorry stupid french internet!

Trip across the Pond

Boise to Chicago, Chicago to Paris = long time travelling! Of course on the flight from Chicago to Paris I am sat in the middle, middle seat between the lady who freaked out about how she couldn’t sit in the seat she was given and the super creepy Frenchman. To add to the pain my entire console was not working, this means no reading light, no movies, no music, no map, no escape from the crazies! I almost died of antsy pants but I somehow survived. After the weirdest flight of my life I finally arrive in Paris and make it through customs without being yelled at, questioned or searched, score. When I got my bags and found my taxi driver we were all surprised to find him being towed away for parking wrong while waiting for me and another girl. So this girl (also from Calpoly) hung out at CDG while the taxi driver went with the car to the tow yard and drove back to pick us up. Finally by 2 pm-ish(I landed at 9:30 am) we arrived in Mont Saint Aignan my new home just outside of Rouen. We like to call it the ghetto because it isn’t near as pretty or interesting as Rouen.

After checking into my new home I went by shuttle to the store where I picked up life or death sort of essentials. My entire room is composed of the colors blue red yellow and green. I totally dig the crazy mix matched-ness of my kitchenry and sheets, towels etc…

I'm sorry it's not letting me upload photos right now but I promise I will soon
