French men, surprise doctors, and train tickets

Let me stsrt by saying that I love France, I do not, however, love French men. I have had too many incidents now where I have been solicited for sex, marriage, and a make out. The French men are ten times worse than the Italian or Spanish in this area. They are flat out overwhelmingly creepy. My friends and I have created safety words and fake names that if we hear any of them we immediately know to get out of the situation. My fake name is Gabriella and if I want rhubarb pie it's not because I'm hungry.

There are lots of cool French guys at the school but it seems whenever we go out or are sitting a a bus stop we attract the flat out weirdos. It doesn't help that my friend Jeanna is gorgeous and ridiculously nice, so the men (literally) flock to her. I love France but I have to say I'm excited for home when I can walk down the street in the middle of the afternoon and not get hit on by ever man in a five foot radius.

Secondly I found out last Wednesday that in order to validate my Visa I have to have a check up with a French doctor (every none EU foreign student has to do this) So today I have to go and get chest x rays and tomorrow I have an appointment with a general practitioner in order to have blood pressure taken, they'll listen to my heart and lungs, and go over my medical history, etc. Jeanna has already completed both appointments so luckily I know where I'm going and what to expect, which is nice.

Tonight there is a HUGE party that the school is putting on with shuttle service and an open bar, but I'm not going A because it cost 17 euro and I can't justify that because I would have one drink maybe two over the course of the evening and I have an unlimited local bus/metro pass. B I have my second doctor appointment at 9 am tomorrow and I don't want to be tired or get sick from lack of sleep etc. So I have no plans for tonight because practically everyone I know is going but that's ok I'm resourceful and I'll find something awesome to do.

Yesterday myself, Laine, Jeanna, and four Canadian grils all bought our train tickets for next weekend's trip. Laine and I are going to Amsterdam for 2 days (we don't have class thursday/friday) and we are meeting everyone else in Brussels for the weekend. I'm really excited to see both places it's going to be awesome. We got some great deals on Hostels and train tickets as well.

I have also pretty much decided to go to Italy for the big break and I might stay with a friend's family in Naples and meet up with other students in Rome. The Finnish girls Tytti and Anniina will be in Rome for some time and I LOVE hanging out with them. (Tytti said I could stay with her whenever I'm in Finland all I need is a toothbrush) Before the big break Tytti, Anniina, Laine, Jeanna, and I are having a French cake and champagne party where we each will bring a different type of french cake/tart and a bottle of champagne and share. It will be an uber girly night.

It has rained here everyday for the last week and we are starting to get antsy and cranky (California girls don't do well without sun, especially Jeanna). I have my first midterm monday in International Economics but I'm not worried because it is all review so far of what I learned in my econ classes at calpoly, and it's multiple choice. I'm going to be studying quite a bit for the next few days though (like today at the doctor while I wait).

I'm sure I have more to tell everyone but I can't think of it.

For Kirsten (an whoever else is interested) my current obsessions:
The Dead Weather
The Kills
Alison Mosshart and her hair (yes I am aware she is part of the first 2 on the list as well)
French pastries
Samurai sauce on Kebabs and Frites
my "sexy pink" perfume from pimkie
mad men
my bright yellow scarf
pesto pasta
DUPLO!!!!! (better than any american candy bar by far)

French Zen for the day:
Park in downtown Rouen

  1. Haha, I love the obsessions. I've I certainly had my own Dead Weather/Kills phase just before you left. "Hang You From the Heavens" is still probably my favorite song of the year. I looked up Duplo but at first all I found was those crappy little kids Lego blocks. After adding the word "candy" to the search I found a picture and I'm pretty sure I've see those at the Co-op, I may take a wander over there in a little bit to check one out.
